It's funny. Every time I visit a friend that has a pet, especially a dog, I come home to a strange third degree. Tonight was no different.
This is how it plays out at my house:
Mommy and Daddy leave at about 6:00 pm. Xander, our beloved Siberian husky, stays at home with the grown children. He pretty much spends his time watching out the window, looking like this:
And eventually he gets tired of the waiting and pouts, looking like this:
When Mommy and Daddy finally do come sauntering in at 10:30pm, Xander tries to look casual as he climbs down from the chair to greet us and love us.
And then it starts.
Dog: **sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff and holds nose against my pant leg and stands perfectly still**
Me: Ok let me explain. So there were these three doggies there. And they were little - tiny really - and they might have climbed onto my lap. But I didn't ask for it, the just sort of just did it. They did it to everyone, not just me. They were really friendly.
Dog: **sniff and looks up at me out of the corner of his eye**
Me: They were really cute and like I said really friendly, but it meant nothing to me. They were just being friendly. That's all. One of them spent a really long time with Andy. He was sitting next to me so that's probably why you smell so much of that one.
Dog: **looks at my pant leg, sniff sniff, holding his nose right against the cloth, continuing to remain perfectly still**
Me: Please don't be like this. ** scratch behind his ears** You know you're my number one dog. It really was no big deal.
Dog: **sniff**
Me: For real! They were all over everyone! It wasn't only me. It's not like they were trying to come home with me or anything. I swear. They were just friendly little house dogs. That's all. Not strays or anything.
Dog: **sniff sniff sniff**
Me: I only fed the one a little piece of sausage from a pizza.
Dog: **backs up two steps**
Me: You know, I really didn't do anything wrong. It's all good. You're my boy. Really you are!
Dog: **walks over to Daddy and curls up at his feet**
Me: You know, he played with them too, ya big baby!
